The other day we went to the zoo with our friends. I have never been to the Fresno Chaffee zoo, and I didn’t know what to expect. When we were making plans to go to the zoo I was secretly dreading it. 1. because I’m not much of an animal person and 2. because of my limp its hard for me to walk long distances or walk around for along time. ( I hate making people go at a slower pace because of my disability.) It worked out just fine because my friends were already going at a slow pace so their kids could see all the animals.
The zoo was really fun and easy to walk around in. The Fresno Chaffee zoo has an African safari section which was lots of fun for Liam and I. We even got to feed a Giraffe a piece of lettuce. I thought it would be as simple as holding the lettuce so it can take it. NOPE. Giraffes love to stick their slimy tongues out and lick your hand all over leaving it sticky and slimy before grabbing the lettuce. I wonder if their Giraffes are specially trained to do that. Thinking back it did enhance the feeding experience.
The first animals that we saw when we walked in were the Tigers. We also saw on our fun trip to the zoo many animals like: lions, bears, flamingos, fish, orangutan, hippos, rhinos, and elephants just to name a few. The flamingos were my favorite animal that we saw that day. When we first walked up to them it looked like a sea of Pepto-bismol. They are so animated and colorful. They are a real joy to watch.
We decided that we were going to eat at the zoo. When I went in to the food court it looked like a buffet with different sections. It had home-style (which is my personal favorite), the grill , Italian, and they had a kiosk of crackers, cookies, and other goodies. Liam has 6 teeth so he needed something soft. I decided to try the home-style mac and cheese for lunch with Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs on top which made the mac n cheese DELIGHTFULLY YUMMY.
When we sat down to eat my friends daughter accidentally spilled her soda all over our seat . Luckily none of the Root Beer got on our clothes. The mom handled it like a champ. She knew exactly what to do. She immediately got into her diaper bag and reemerged with a HUGE thing of wet wipes. I was impressed. She was so well prepared to handle the situation. The first thought I had was, I wish I was that prepared. I later texted her to tell her how well I thought she handled it and she told me that it was not her first spill. Now I know that you need to be prepared with extra wipes at all times. You never know when your little ones are going to make a huge mess.
Liam and I had a fun day at the zoo with our friends. It was Liam’s first but definitely not his last trip to the zoo.
